Choosing the #right socks for your #shoes

#Socks..the most ignored part of your dressing. There are a majority of people in the world who #dress themselves immaculately from top to bottom with sharp suits, crisp shirts and trousers , but when it comes to socks they pick up the #wrong pair and unknowingly create a big #Image Breaker.

The thumb rule is wherever there is maximum color contrast in our attire, our attention tends to move there. Lets  assume a situation which many of us must have come across. A man dressed in a black suit with a white shirt and a sharp look on face, sitting in front of you talking. While making himself comfortable he puts his legs one over the other in a crossing position. He is wearing a stark white sports socks with black shoes. Where does your eyes set immediately? Obviously at his socks. This is natural because of the contrast.  Michael Jackson, the legend always wore sharp contrast in his socks and shoes(Eg white socks and black shoes). He did it deliberately to pull the attention of his audience at his feet, to showcase his brilliant foot work while dancing. Lets take  a look at some rules for choosing the right socks.

Rule 1- Your socks should always match your trousers and not shoes. Black pant- black socks, grey pants-grey socks, denims- blue socks most nearly matching your denims. The socks need not be exact matches of the trouser colors but near match also is acceptable.

Rule2- #Dress socks (Fine and thin material) always to be worn with dress shoes. Wearing athletic socks(with heavy cotton and bulky material) is a total ‘No No’ with dress shoes.

Rule3- White socks are only meant for sports .

Rule4- Avoid wearing socks with shorts. Logically speaking, wearing full length socks with shorts visually cuts your length, making you look shorter  in addition to being a fashion Faux Pas. If you are wearing shorts with shoes, you can go for ankle socks that would not be overly seen. Never wear socks with sandals.
Follow these rules and you are sure to create an impeccable image for yourself.

  1. I like white socks, in certain situations and I think that, although more "risky" they can be classy and elegant. Sometimes rules are there to be thoughtfully broken. They are usually dress socks type, much thinner and hence less flashy than the white of sport socks, which indeed I agree should be avoided. In some occasions matching the shirt is awesome, as the socks replicate the same contrast between shirt and coat, that works with many shirt colors, included white. In such situation, socks replicate the white shirt sleeves which, being longer, come out from the coat sleeves :). Personally I'm only doing that mainly with not black, but grey scale or grey grid patterned, brown, crimson, grey blue coats and/or trousers or some other shades and colors. So the contrast is not as stark as with black trousers, but the shoes can be black leather stringed or brown or loafers, brown or black as well. Mind though that Blues Brothers also worn white socks, but they don't stand out as much as jackson's, without the hats and sunglasses, I think theirs look like a legit and proper outfits ;D.
If I match the socks with trousers (most of the time), white socks only go with white or beige trousers.
Yes, no socks with shorts if I'm not wearing shoes, ankles socks, not white, if I wear them with shoes, mainly brown loafers, the same I'd wear with suits as well, but the simplest kind, then always socks off in the warmest months.
